OK, maybe not completely feh. If you’re in one of the 10 states holding primaries today — and considering most of the people I know are in New York or Kalleeforneeya (the Governor has changed the spelling to better reflect his pronounciation, no?) — please go to the polls and vote, even if you’re a depressed Deaniac or you have a headache from looking so hard for the bolts protruding from Kerry’s neck. Really, politics is just like AA … it works if you work it.
Personally, I started out supporting Kerry a year ago, and while I totally appreciate what Dr. Dean did to help build political interest and grass-roots support, I was never a major supporter. Kerry keeps pissing me off, though. He’s too much on the fence, and now that he’s the front-runner again, he’s all stiff and doesn’t say anything. I think Kerry will make a great president once he’s in the job and can stop pretending like he’s everything for everybody. But unless he’s in a dogfight, when somehow he starts being smart and dynamic than simply political, he’s a pain in the ass.
That’s why today, even though I’ve been supporting Kerry and will definitely vote for him in November should he be the nominee, I voted for John Edwards. I like Edwards a lot, and there’s a good chance he could be president one day. He’s not going to win this time, and I’m voting in New York where, in the last poll I saw, Kerry was about 25 points ahead. BUT, I want to keep Edwards in the mix as long as possible (which is probably not more than another week). I want Edwards to have a voice at the convention, just as I want Dean to have a role there too. Hell, I’d be happy to see Kucinich have a presence there because nuts or not, he represents the Nader-wing of the party.
As usual, New York won’t have much say in the ultimate election because the democratic nominee will handily beat Bush here … but I’ll always believe every vote does count, so exercise your rights. It’s the only way you’ll get to make sure you keep them.
Damn … I got all serious and sincere there for a second. Sorry.
