DIVO ALERT: DON’T BE LOST AGAIN

LostSo I’m actually a week behind on this, but if you missed the new show Lost, ABC is giving you a chance to catch-up. Tonight at 10 PM is the second hour, i.e., part 2 of the “Pilot.” Missing one hour isn’t the biggest deal, and you can always head over to TWoP and read the recap.

What you absolutely should NOT do is miss anything more, and hopefully, ABC will reshow the entire series this summer before season 2 starts in the fall. I haven’t written my post-season wrap-up because I still have to watch the last few episodes of one show I used to like before I completely trash it. But suffice to say, Lost is one series that did what a new show is supposed to do: keep growing and get better as it goes along. Can J.J. Abrams sustain it into a second season? I don’t know. His track record with this kind of series with action and twists actually says no. Alias has managed to go from shockingly fun to beyond absurd, and really has been on a downward slope ever since season 1.

Hopefully, Lost will sustain itself better, but whether it does or not, this first season was a brilliantly constructed 24 hours (minus commercials) of television that should not be missed. So don’t.

Of course, there’s also always the pending DVD.

  1. Okay, here’s the thing. Lost was fantastic this season. Def. up there as one of the best debut seasons in recent memory. My two fears are: I do not want Lost to become another X-Files, where they are constantly posing more and more questions but never answer a damn thing except for meaningless superfluous details. I found the finale to be more frustrating than satisfying mainly because I still don’t really have a better grip on WTF is going on than I did week 1.
My second fear is that JJ is going to do what he has done with Alias. I mean, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if some studio head at ABC pulls what they did with Alias Season 1 and says– its too much for people– too confusing– make it easier to understand…. and we all wind up with Jurassic Park “The Series”. I still have hope that next season will continue the level that this one did. My personal plan is to give it until mid-season next year to see if they do ANYTHING to solve the mystery. Everyone loves a bit of suspense, but there had better be a payoff. and it had better not be a Bob Newhart style dream sequence or a simple, they weren’t lost at all revelation.
